Driving and using your mobile device in Hawaii can get you in trouble
An update to our laws regarding driving and texting has taken effect July 1, 2014. It applies to using a mobile device while the car is moving, and includes texting or talking, and probably taking pictures. An exemption was added to make it OK if you are completely stopped.
The new penalty will be a flat fine of $250, unless you're in a school zone or construction area, in which case the fine will be $300.
The violation is deemed a traffic infraction, and it will have a negative effect on your automobile insurance.
So don't do it!
