Driving through Wailuku Maui, Hawaii the other day I snapped these pictures from the passenger seat while cruising to Waikapu.  If you live in Wailuku, these buildings will be landmarks to you.  Maui has a nice mix of old and new buildings, including the Wailuku Elementary School and the State Building.

HAWAII STANDARD TIME = HST

If you really don't know what time it is in Hawaii, can you please refer to a time zone map before calling.  I am willing to answer your calls at odd hours, but not at 4:30 in the morning.

Here in Hawaii we don't go onto Daylight Saving Time.  We are 2 or 3 hours BEHIND the West Coast, depending on the season.  We are 5 or 6 hours BEHIND the East Coast. 

Here's an easy way to remember HST, in case you don't know if Hawaii is before or after.... picture a rising sun coming up in the EAST and setting in the WEST.  So if Hawaii is west of California (of course you know that already), the sun will be coming up later than in California, right?  Therefore, when it's daybreak on the west coast, we are still in the dark, and probably still sleeping. December 2008 sunrise on Maui  Does that make sense?  Any questions?

I recently joined Twitter.com because I was curious.  I held back as long as I could because I knew it would probably be a real time grabber. 

I like it and it can be fun if you have time to get into it, and join in some conversations.  There are some smart peeps on Twitter, but you never know until you spend some time reading their tweets and following their links.  140 characters is a real contraint to being brilliant, so you often have to delve a little deeper by clicking a link.

I like to check in there once or twice a day for a half hour, if time permits.  I see some of the same people on there time after time. 

Do you twitter?  How much time do you spend there?  Do you find yourself staying too long at the party?  How do you manage your time there?

Some agents just don't get it - try updating your MLS listing remarks

driving into Wailuku Maui HI

Please update your listing remarks!

I had some buyers interested in seeing a small fixer upper in Wailuku Maui.  It's listed by a rather obscure company.  The agent remarks said it was vacant and easy to show... it even gave the lock box number.  I arranged to show it to them at 3 in the afternoon.  I called the agent's cell number to confirm the appointment and all I got was a message stating his voice mailbox was full.  Tried to call his office number, but wait it's the same number!  Must be a one man office.  So I emailed him about the appointment and let him know he needed to clear his voice mailbox.

A couple of hours later I got a call from the listing agent.  Guess what?  No showings until he can get in touch with the tenant... oh yes, there's a tenant living there now.  He'll get back to me when I can bring the buyers around.  So, do you think I'll ever hear from this agent again?  It's already been 2 days.  Would it kill him to update the remarks and try responding to his phone messages?
