Memories from The Inn at Mama's Fish House in Kuau Maui HI

When I viewed one of the new suites at The Inn at Mama's Fish House last year it was a very pleasant surprise to see what they had done with our old home.  What is now part of The Inn used to be our first home on Maui, which we owned for about 22 years before selling it.  They remodeled our 3 bedroom house into 3 lovely suites with quick access to a sandy beach rimmed with coconut palms.  When we sold our beach house, we had no idea they were going to make it so beautiful!

I always take my camera with me on trips to Paia Maui because you never know what you'll see.  It's such a charming little northshore beach town filled with interesting shops and characters.

Today I saw fresh cocoa pods for sale in Mana Foods.  I saw a young daughter of an old friend, all grown up and beautiful.  I saw a new store giving away tacos and hibiscus tea.  I saw cotton plants growing in front of the Paia Dharma Center.  And of course I saw plenty of big waves rolling in at Ho'okipa Beach Park.

An interesting story in the Maui News the other day shed a lot of light on the connection between China and Maui back in the day of Sun Yat-sen.  It was quite a surprise to me that Keokea Maui was a hot bed of Chinese revolutionary activity over a hundred years ago.  There is a Sun Yat-sen Memorial Park which has been blessed with recent upgrades from visiting representatives.  Read all about it in the Maui News.

Silent Evolution Evolving - amazing underwater sculpture garden by Jason deCaires Taylor

Please take a few minutes to be mesmerized by this inspiring and haunting video depicting an underwater sculpture installation as it evolves and becomes part of the coral reef.  It's somewhere in Mexico, but it could be done in many places.  I think it would be awesome to have one here in Hawaii, as a way to help save the reefs.

It's quite hypnotizing and easy to watch the whole thing, only to want more information about the artist.

Haiku Maui Realtor Caravan followed by a nice lunch compliments of Fidelity Title

Today was the usual Haiku/Paia Realtor caravan covering the north shore of Maui.  There were 5 residential listings and 1 vacant land listing to see in Haiku.  Prices ranged from $195,000 for the 1.3 acres to $2,900,000 for a beautiful large mansion on 2 acres.

An added bonus was another home on 5 acres in a very desirable neighborhood.  The seller only allowed a select group of Maui Realtors to see their property instead of letting all agents come through.  It was a very nice cottage and pool house with room for a main house to be built.  Afterwards we were treated to a nice lunch at Colleen's in Haiku.  Mercy Palmer, MaryJo Cabral and Pam Teal from Fidelity were there to treat us and we all had a good time.  Thank you Fidelity!

Our Maui Realtor community is small and friendly and we all know each other and we know the people who work in the title and escrow companies.  It's great to live on a small island and have a sense of community in the workplace.

There's something about a blue sky that makes you smile. Maui blue skies!

After spending a few days in the cloudy gloomy weather of Vancouver, it was nice to come back to Maui and see bright blue skies and puffy white clouds, and feel the sun on my skin.  It's something we take for granted here in Hawaii, and I can really appreciate it now. Please enjoy these sunny skies if you're needing some sunshine in your day.

Chasing the market down with your home pricing

I remember when this Haiku Maui home first came on the market in April 2008, asking $1,295,000.  It was unfinished, as the owner had run out of money and abandoned it.  The price was totally unrealistic at the time and what a shame they didn't price it accordingly.  It might have sold by now if it was listed for $800,000 back then.
