Maui Blog - Georgina M. Hunter R(S): Wordless Wednesday - Makena Beach Maui Hawaii

Wordless Wednesday - Makena Beach Maui Hawaii

Yahoo, it's wordless Wednesday again.  I like to take advantage of this and keep it short and sweet ... it's Makena Beach in South Maui, that's south of Wailea.  My favorite beach on the whole island of Maui - can you see why?

I love the picture first off Georgina and the beach is not crowded either. Beautiful. And still so natural looking.

Steve and Gary - yes, this is one of the undeveloped beaches - no showers, no lifeguards, etc.  It's just so mesmerizing to be there.

Georgina- This was my mother's favorite beach and she took me there when I was 14. I had so much fun. I remember it so vividly and your photo touches my heart. Hawaii was my mother's favorite place, maybe that is where I got it from:) She dreamed of going to Fiji and Tahiti too. She never made it. I was living in Hawaii the last time I saw her alive.

I have some tales of her wanting to live on the land in Hawaii and how she took me with her to live with the fishermen in tents on the beach in Makaha. They were homeless by choice and we lived there with them for like a month.

Very, very pretty and I am so jealous because I live around so much dirt & sand!

It's absolutely beautiful!  There's no way anyone can look at that beach and NOT see what draws you to it!

Georgina - Awesome photo. I guess we can dream.

The blue water is so inviting.

Hmm. I love the depth of the shot. But I would have cropped out the guy on the right. My eyes keep being drawn to him instead of the beauty of the ocean, the shoreline, and the mountain. But then, I may not be the best person to make an attempt to critique a photo. I never like people in mine. LOL!

Georgina, What a gorgeous picture....I sure wish I were there right now!  We still have the heat cranked up and occasional snowflakes :(

Katerina - wow, that must have been quite an experience, living like a homeless person at 14, but I bet it was fun.  Hurry up and get over here and we'll go to Makena together.

Lisa - I left that guy there for perspective.  I thought about cropping it too, but decided it helps to keep the eyes moving.  It's supposed to help you feel like you're right there with him.

everyone else - thanks for the nice comments and I'll see you on your blogs

Georgina - You are very lucky to be able to live and work in such a beautiful part of the world.  I want to be on that beach right now.

It is definitely is a great beach, we had a great day there... then went shopping at Wailea, had Drinks at Tommy Bahamas and then had dinner in Lahaina! Turned out to be one of the best days we had on our vacation of 5 weeks. It was one of those days you will never forget.

Have the developers been kept at bay? Last time I was in Maui, 2007, it was a big concern that development of all kinds was encroaching on the Makena community. I saw an awful lot of building during my last few visits.

Dave - the state of the current economy has slowed things down a lot.  In the end you know the developers usually win, because it creates jobs, and yadda yadda.  Progess marches on!
