What is Google saying about you?
After reading Steve Kappre's post about Googling yourself, I decided to give it a whirl. Today when I Googled myself I got some interesting results:
- www.eastmaui.com - my own site was ranked first (Phew!)
- eastmaui.com/ghunter.html - my own profile page
- Twitter.com/mauihunter - (down for maintenance)
- ActiveRain profile for Georgina M. Hunter
- plaxo.com profile - funny, I just joined that less than 2 months ago
- zillow.com profile - one of them anyway - I think have 2 profiles and it's a big mess, don't get me started on that
- www.mauihunter.com - another of my own sites
- Twellow.com - what the heck is this? Did I sign up for that too?
- localism.com - OK, glad to see this is moving up the ranks
- websearch.ramaui.com - my public IDX site - Grand Champions units for sale - don't know how that happened, but it's OK - maybe this area could use some maintenance to increase my SEO
Page 2 was headed up with MyMauiBlog (the AR outside blog) and some of my other sites and finally a link to a FaceBook Gina M. Hunter! Close but not me.
I conclude that Plaxo and Twellow have something going on. What happened to my Trulia profile? I'm surprised that wasn't on the list. 
Ideally, only my own sites would be in the top ten, but at least all my profiles will point to my sites. Do your profiles link to your website? It's easy to do so take that extra step and ensure that you can be found by consumers - your site, your email, or your phone number. Because if they can't contact you when they find you on the web, then what's the point?

Did you google just your name or attach real estate, or realtor etc. with it? There are so many other Rita Burke's around it's hard for me to place on first page, but I'm there from trulia, and twitter and our google profile page. If I add real estate after my name, all the top social network sites along with our site and our blog sites come up. ~Rita
Good idea to just Google your name to make sure there is noting negative showing up.
One of the things I love about my name is that no one else has it! Actually someone in Spain has my name but she is only in Spanish language. I dominate at least the first 5 pages of google. I love to tell people with confidence- GOOGLE ME! Katerina
Hi Georgina, I've never even heard of Twellow, now I've got to check that one out. It seems everytime you turn around, there is another new social networking site popping up.
What does all do for you? Can you link it to business that your getting or what?
I'm surprised you're not at Linked In or Merchant Circle, or if you are, that those did not show up.
I regularly check to see where my name comes up! I not only check my name but also searches for realtor nj, home stager nj, etc. It helps me to know what sites are working for me and what aren't. It's interesting to see what sites pop up-- ones I didn't even know I was on!
Rita - just my name - it's unique enough at this point. Maybe you could be "Rita the Rilta" lol

Thanks Georgina, I just Googled my name and was surprised by the results.. NOT what I expected.. I clearly have some work to do!
Eva - we all need to check up on ourselves from time to time - online reputation management.
Reputation management is huge for agents! Think about how often you go to Google for info - clients do too. Great reminder for people to check in every so often to see what info is out there on them.
We've heard that you should google your name at one of the classes we went to. It was surprising the results. Definitely helps you to know what to work on. Great Idea!

This is where a famous name is a hindrance. First, the name is actually quite common and even when I attach "real estate", I get info on the famous writer's home...
But yes, I do google myself and I think it is important to do so.
Wow, Georgine, those are some impressive results. COngratulations! I know I have some work to do to up my Google rankings, as only my Active Rain profile page comes up when I put in my name. And, like others with common or famous names, those pop up first.

I don't Google myself but I do Google our Company and BB. I am pleased with the results I find. Having a unique name helps us out a lot. I didn't read all your comments but I thought I should tell you Twellow is Twitter's version of the yellow pages.
