TROPICAL FLOWERS FROM HAWAII
Remember the jade vines from Haiku Maui? While I was there I took some more flower pictures. It seems that people can't get enough of these tropical blooms, so I will share some more with you. It's very easy to grow these plants in the warm climate of Haiku Maui. With rainfall somewhere between 25-75 inches a year, and plenty of sunshine, Haiku encourages many plants to flower year round. The brilliant colors of Hibiscus, Bird of Paradise, Croton, and Cotton are all shown here. Palms of all kinds thrive in Haiku. Citrus and avocado too.
What kind of tropical plants would you grow if you lived in Hawaii?

Georgina, what great colors! Hibiscus are so pretty, unfortunately I've never been lucky with them. I love Bird of Paradise, they are just so exotic to me.
What totally awesome colors, I can feel the warmth from here.
with all that cold and nasty weather on the mainland, I thought it might help to send some sunshine your way!
Georgina - everything you photographed here also grows in Florida - we have a lot of common plants! They are all beautiful! Nothing is as lovely as a tropical plant!!! Great photos!
The colors are so vivid the flowers seem so large, what kind of plant is the second flower from?
Absolutely beautiful! I love great flowers and you seem to have so many. Most of those only grow here in greenhouse's. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Georgina,
I love birds of paradise, poinsettias, plumeria, torch ginger, tuberose, and hibiscus, to name just a few. The flowers of Hawai'i are so colorful and fragrant -- well many of them are fragrant!
We were on Kauai for a month one year and watched the bougenvilla hedge bloom and change color. It was so beautiful, even though it's not local.
Mahalo for a lovely photo!
That second one is a Bird of Paradise - a member of the heliconia family. You really don't see them that often anymore as they sort of went out of fashion.
None of these are fragrant, but they sure are colorful!
Thanks for the comments - have a great weekend.
Georgina, beautiful flowers! I would grow as many tropical flowers as I could find seeds or starts to grow! They are so beautiful.
Hi Georgina, A wonderful colors of flowers and colors. I have a giant ( 24" ) bowl of the Bird of Paradise from my garden. I cut them just as they are opening and then they thrive in water. I will have a run a post and show the varieties of flowers I grow. I don't live in the tropics but have been lucky living a little inland with the warm days and moderate evenings.
Beautiful shots, Georgina! How I would love it if flowers bloomed here all year.... sigh.

I would love to go on a house hunt with you. Your photography is exquisite. Thanks for the visual explosion of color and shape. Have a wonderful weekend.
Georgina these photos are soo pretty! What beautiful colors!
Georgina, They are all gorgeous---such beautiful colors. I love avacados and eat one almost every day, I would be trying to grow them there.
Hi Georgine. That's quite a collection of flowers. With you living on the tropical side of the island, I bet you have them all on your farm.
William - that sounds like a blog post to me!
Larry - come on over and we'll go on tour together!
Carol - we do grow some avos, and citrus, bananas, papayas, star fruit.
Richard - not all of these. I want to try the cotton!
Just stopped by to invite you to the ActiveRain Super Bowl Party. Stop by if you get a chance. Geaux Saints!
Did you know there's also an ActiveRain Group called "The Power of Flowers"?
You know that I ALWAYS enjoy dropping by your blog as you share bits of the paradise where you live! Thanks and keep it up!
I wouldn't grow anything because all I have to do is touch them and they die. Now my husband, well, he's a different story. He can grow anything, leaving my chores to go around and smell them and admire their beauty.
By the way, I love your pictures.
Russel - no I didn't know that! I'll look for it.
Russell - there's more coming
Jim - thanks for the flattery! We're both lucky to have a partner with a green thumb.
Great, Great Pictures! You have such a great eye when it comes to photography. I could frame those and add some color to my living room.
I wanted to Thank you for the advice last week when you suggested I link the list I am working on to each blog post - I spent more time than I would care to admit creating a wordpress blog and then going and linking all the posts and today was the first time I was able to post them all! That was a great idea, thank you for the suggestion.
Hey, I enjoy the reading your blog. All the flowers are preety good . Thanks...
