Maui Bus Service - our Public Transportation
While doing a little research for somebody who's moving to Maui, I learned a lot about our emerging public transportation system on Maui. The Maui bus service is growing and evolving to meet the needs of residents. Not only is there a regular bus transit system, there is also a commuter service for people who need to get to work at the same time every day, far across the island. I didn't know that!
If you need to get around on Maui and you don't have a car.... get on board, and get on the bus! With 4 Central routes, 2 Upcountry routes, 4 west Maui routes, and 2 south Maui routes.
- the Upcountry and Haiku Islander routes include a stop at the Kahului Airport
- surfboards are not allowed
- pets must be enclosed in a cage
- the bus can carry 2 bicycles
- $1 bus fare

Great localism post - public transportation is so important! Bummer that they don't allow surfboards!
Georgina - fully utilized public transit certainly helps in greening the planet one bus full at a time.
Great Localism and info post! Nice to see public transit available!
I agree with Fernando! This is great info to know.
They should build a high speed rail line from San Diego to Hawaii because I don't think I'll ever get my husband on that long flight from here to there.
Fernando - that sounds like fun, let's do it together! I'll bring the Margies!
BJ - I guess they had to draw the line somewhere.
Kathy - the commuter bus service will keep a lot of cars off the road, and that's always good.
Russell - we have really needed this for a long time
Debra - I'll save you a seat!
Jim - that'll be the day! They can't even decide on their hi-speed rail for Oahu. You know, there are boats that come here don't you? (do I smell a future blog post?)

Georgina, with this spectacular scenery, I would love to ride this bus!
