Walgreens will soon be opening their first store in Kahului Maui HI. It's where the old Pizza Hut used to be at the corner of Kamehameha Ave and Puunene Ave. This picture was taken about a week ago. Hey it might already be open, but got lost in the brouhaha for the Whole Foods Market opening.

Georgina: I just had to comment because it's cold and pouring rain here in Nor Cal and I soooo wish I was on Maui right now - my absolute favorite destination hands down. I haven't been since '04. Yhea! Walgreen's is great; we have three in N.B. We don't have a Whole Foods in N.B. but they do in San Antonio.
Even the Walgreen's in Hawaai looks more exotic. I am so glad I don't have to spell the names of the streets. I have enough trouble with Elm and Maple, but I do have Maine down.

Hi Georgina. The last time I drove by it appeard the protestors had left and the store was almost done. Kauai may have to wait a while to get theirs.
As much as I love Walgreen's (and their stock has been very good to me over the years).. why can't they bend their architecture to reflect local style. A Walgreen in Texas looks just like a Walgreen's in Maui.. that's just not right in my book.

These bigger stores do have a lot of variety of products and are very useful, I wonder if there were any mom and pop shops that will go under because of the increased presence.
We have so many Walgreens around here, it is like every few miles there is another one! I prefer Walgreens to CVS personally -
I think the mom and pops suffered when Costco and Walmart came to town - then CVS took over some of the Long's Drugs. But it seems like the smaller pharmacies might be making a come back after all - there is demand.
Walgreens must be going well because they are moving into our area soon too and I can't wait!
Here I thought that everyone had a Walgreens.
