I don't even know what this flower is either.  iPhoto is pretty cool, but I'm also hooked on ACDSee which I have used for years.

Georgina, those are pretty flowers, but what is that concrete  structure right behind it that looks like a nuclear reactor?

Kevin - you make me laugh!  that's a tree trunk - a royal palm!  There are no nuclear reactors on Maui.

I echo what Kevin's question was, now I know a concrete looking tree trunk.  In any event another great picture from my friend living in a beautiful land.

We have one in our back yard but I don't know the name of it. However, I know someone who does, and as soon as he takes a break from his home inspection report, I'll send him over here.

Jim sent me an email before he went to bed saying you needed some help identifying a plant.

The one in the picture is the Red Bird of Paradise (Caesalpinia pulcherrima). It's also known as the Pride of Barbados or Mexican Bird of Paradise.

It's a member of the pea family, and butterflies love it. Even though peas like water, the Mexican Bird of Paradise likes it dry and hot.

Beautiful flowers and so glad Russel provided information on this gorgeous plant.

We have a winner!  Russel Ray provided the much needed info..... it's a Mexican Bird of Paradise, Caesalpinia pulcherrima.  Thanks Russel!
