Photos of Maui trees
The other day somebody commented to me that there are a lot of different kinds of palm trees here on Maui. That's so true in the resort areas, where they try hard for the tropical look. But there are also many other kinds of unusual trees here too. Here are some examples from around the island. Below is the kiawe tree which is common in the lowland dry areas. Watch out for the long thorns.

Palms trees of all kinds are found in the beach areas. These were by the Maui Hill Resort in South Kihei.

I think this might also be a kiawe tree, or the remains of one, taken on the north shore near Ho'okipa Beach Park.

Spring and summer bring us the beautiful displays of the flowering shower trees and poincianas.

Some unusual trees I saw growing in Kula Maui - I still don't know what these strange trees are and would appreciate help (Russel?)

The traveller's trees pictured below are not really trees, but herbaceous plants - but they are striking aren't they?

The hala tree below is one of the native species that is still surviving, especially in the wetter zones of Maui.

And yes, there are plenty of palm trees of all kinds here too.

I could go on and on, but this will do for now.
Aloha from Maui!

Hi Georgie - These trees are wonderful. What an interesting array. I especially like the Hala Tree - I've never seen anything like it!

I absolutely love these photos of trees. I love trees! Hawaii as I remember does have some marvelous trees. We are known for our Variety of Palm Trees here also, but most are not even native to Florida. We are less known for our native trees also, like the tall pines and the expansive Banyon trees that are so amazing. However, we have a very big problem with an invasive Australian pine tree that we are trying to eradicate. They are a danger to our eco system as they hog the water supply to native plants and species. Katerina
Georgina, great post! It is so beautiful on your Island!
The Hala trees are my favorite. Just like fans. LOVE your posts!
Georgina - these are beautiful trees and I especially like the one tha looks like a fan. You have so much beautiful vegetation in Maui.
Georgina - Those are spectacular photos of a wonderful part of the world. I love the Hala tree picture. I've never seen any of those, and I've been to Hawaii 4 times.
Much of your plant life is very similar to ours - we both have hurricanes - let's see - oh yes, YOUR state was the ONLY one not to suffer this winter - YOU stayed warm, while we froze with the rest of the continental USA -
Debi - I think you need to return to Hawaii just to take pictures - you'd have a blast!
Katerina - we have a lot of invasive species here too, but there's a movement to bring back more of the native species.
Tony and Darcy - you ought to know!
Ellie - yes, they're so different, I love them too.
Sharon - those are pretty outstanding plants.
Myrl - you'll have to look for them the next time you come over.
BJ - we had an exceptionally dry winter this year, and it was nice!
Hi Georgina, What a interesting group of trees. Dr. Seuss comes to mind. Now I am going to have to look around and see what interesting tress are in Southern Oregon.
