Have you ever had a gadget headache?
I had my first gadget headache yesterday when my iPhone decided to go dead on me.
I know the battery was not dead but the screen would not light up. It was a black screen and I could not turn my phone on no matter what I did. Oh no my iPhone is dead. What am I going to do? Talk about a gadget headache.
As soon as I could get to another computer I Googled my iPhone screen is black. What do I do. I found a help chat with the solution. You just have to hold down the start button and the home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds. Actually it took about 12 or 13 seconds and then the apple logo came on the screen on my phone started up. What a relief! Now I know how to fix my iPhone when it goes black, and I also know to just Google for help. I hope that's the last gadget headache I ever have.
What's your worst gadget headache story?
This blog post was made using the dragon dictation iPhone app.

Georgina, I thought we are also supposed to circle three times to the right while holding down the buttons … then circle back to the left one and one-half times … (LOL) Glad you got the gadget restored. It took me two days and 13 hours of tech support calls to get my Blackberry working … by receiving a replacement!
I had that a few times, and all you need to do is to wait a couple of minutes. Holding the way you describe is resets the camera and is a good thing to do once a week.
I love the term gadget headache. Unfortunately, I have had numerous ones of those. I have a very small amount of knowledge about gadgets.
Help is such a needed relief just when you know you are about to loose it! I rely on networking with friends because I am not too techie. I get laptop rage sometmes which is much worse that any road rage I have ever experienced!
I never have had one but my brother-in-law has and he loves the new iPad from Apple!

Have a new Droid and the screen is touchy when I'm not touching it. Finicky. And you need to sharpen the ends of your fingers to make them smaller if you don't use the steel hunt and peck, tap tap it in as Happy Gilmore would say method. Super post. I think it should be feature material and pushed the button!
Don't we depend on all our gadgets, huh?
I like that you used Dragon Dictation for your post. It's a great application - tons of possibilities. But this is a different topic :)
My crackberry does that all the time. Unfortunately I have to take the battery out for it to come back. It just arbitrarily plays up on me.
Kathleen - if that's what it takes, I'll do it!
Jon - waiting didn't seem to help, it was down for at least half a hour!
Team Honeycutt - it's a term that actually exists for when you get eyestrain/headache from overuse of your gadget
Barbara - all this stuff can get very frustrating, can't it?
Robert - I suppose sooner or later it will happen to all of us
Andrew - thanks for pushing the button!
Svetlana - yes, I love Dragon Dictation and use it a lot
Jane - how annoying! When I decided to go with a smart phone, people who had used both Blackberry and iPhone said they were happier with the iPhone, so that's what I chose. I'm glad there was a simple fix.
Georgina - I don't know what I would do without my gadgets! I love my computer but it is 6 years old and on it's last liver spot! This is my gaget headache! I will have to spring for a new one soon.
I don't have a smart phone and I will get one soon (I hope) but everything else around me is breaking down so it will have to wait!
Coming to you from Texas...
Georgina, We bought the HP all in one from hell. At the time I had an HP laptop and the two would not speak together. They would not return our money but exchanged the all in one THREE times. It was the most frustrating experience. We finally gave up the ghost and bought a scan snap scanner and it is one of the BEST investments we have ever made.
Georgina-That's likely not your last gadget headache. Nothing lasts forever. I do really like the iPhone though. Thanks for the tip.
Hi Georgina. My worst is usually my most recent, such as my laptop which gave it up last night. It's a headache and not a catastrophe because I did have everything backed up. Also, I have 7 days left on my in-home warranty service, yipeeeee!
Knock wood- I'm pretty good now. But when I had my Treo phone by Palm, the darn thing would freeze up and then reset itselft without any warning or with any rhyme or reason.
Georgina - thanks for the information which I will certainly keep in my memory banks since I am getting an iPhone in October.
It seems that when my iPod goes blank or freezes up, I have to do the same thing as you did to get your iPhone started up again. I so wish the iPhone was available on my plan. I love my Blackberry, but I'm ready for a new phone and the iPhone seems like a fun choice.
Yes it may!

Hi Georgina - there is a similar fix for resetting an ipod which I have done several times. I agree with Craig - would love to have an iphone, but the coverage is not so good here, I am thinking about the Droid.
