Maui Blog - Georgie Hunter R(S): Hipstamatic point and shoot camera app for iPhone

Hipstamatic camera app for iphone

I have been having some fun with the HIPSTAMATIC camera app for my iPhone.  It's a way to take photos that look like they were taken with a small instamatic camera.  You can "change" the lens and the film for different photo effects, or just give it a shake and take a chance.  You never really know what the results will be, which makes it interesting.

What you will notice is the pictures have a look from another era, kind of like those old pictures in a shoebox in your closet, that fade with time.

Below are some Maui snapshots taken with my iPhone:

Digital photography never looked so analog.... that's their catch phrase.

There's something about the quality of these pictures that is hard to define... is it nostalgia?

The fact that they are so imperfect makes them unique and interesting.

You almost want to pick them up and feel them, turn them over.

And if the $1.99 app isn't enough, you can buy more lenses and film to expand the repertoire and have even more fun!  I might just get hooked on this Hipstamatic app.

Nice! I hope it's available on a Droid

for us droid users...and it's free.

Many a-time have I moaned about the lack of photo-altering apps available for Android. The iPhone has Hipstamatic and Swankolab-it can't be too hard to create similar apps for Android, can it developers? Enter FxCamera.

It's free (a nice reward for Android users who had to wait this long), and creates lomo-esque photo effects on your snaps. Recombu tested the app and came up trumps with some cool effects from the various filters. [Gizmodo]

Yes it's fun, as you never know what the results will be.  I'm going to check out these other suggestions too.

Thanks for the comments and input.

Georgina,

This looks like a fun tool... Have you been able to use it for marketing properties, or real estate related purposes? (Not that it can't be used for fun, just wondering...)

Andy - go for it!

Patrick - I have used it on my blog and other internet sites... does that count as marketing?

Georgina,

That DOES count! I love the look -

I love the Hipstamatic more and more.  Sometimes I'll come back to pictures I took a while ago and realize how much I like them.  They sort of grow on you!  Thanks for checking it out.
