After many months of inconvenience, the parking lot behind Charley's Restaurant opened again on March 7, and it's much improved.  The sewer lines were upgraded before paving took place, contributing to the lengthy process which spanned the holiday season.  Now we also have decent lighting making it a safer place to park at night.  Bring your chump change, as you'll be paying to park in the new and improved lot - which probably explains why it's still mostly empty.

You'll notice that it's now become a one-way drive through the entrance where it used to be 2-way on Hana Highway next to the restaurant.  There's no more alley way entry/exit on the Hana Highway either.  The only exit is now on Baldwin Ave where it was before - but it's also one-way, exit only.

Paia Maui really needs more parking even with the increased capacity now at the Paia Town Center.  Another temporary gravel lot is being prepared up by the Post Office on Baldwin Ave., with about 100 spots of free parking.  This site will eventually be developed, but for now the owners are trying to ease the parking situation in our little beach town.  By mid March there should be plenty of parking options in Paia, so come on by and do your shopping and dining on the north shore of Maui.

Looks like at least one person is still getting used to the new "one way" status of the lot!

Georgina, Glad to know there is only one way to go.  I get confused about all the choices so often.

Parking in Hawaii is always a quest to find a spot. The nice thing is not being in a hurry and being able to enjoy the walk to your destination.

Georgina - sounds like parking is a problem over there but those feet are cute! Aren't iPhone's great?

Aloha and mahalo everyone for stopping by and commenting.  Once the new parking lot on Baldwin opens there should be no problems finding a place to park anymore.
