Spikeless Palm Trimming - Maui Hawaii

Spikeless Palm Tree Trimming on Mauibeautiful royal palm in Haiku Maui

Today on Realtor Caravan in Haiku, I met a nice young man who has a tree trimming service for palm trees.  What's unique about his service is they don't use foot spikes to climb the coconut trees, they use specialized tree platforms with rubber straps to wrap around the trunk.  The spike wounds on palm trees never heal up, unlike woody trees.  Apparently, the spike holes become bigger holes which can expose the core to harmful bacteria and disease.

David Elberg is the owner and operator of Pure Life Palm Trimmers, and his mission is to support Maui's local economy and ecology through the consistent, careful, and deliberate maintenance of its many beautiful palms.  He specializes in coconut palms, but also trims other palms such as fan, date, royal, and queen palms.  He guarantees that he will leave your palms happy, healthy, and pleasing to the eye.  He will show up on time, get the job done safely, and leave the property spotless.  You gotta love that.  Fro more info or a free estimate, you can contact him directly at 808-344-1974 or check out his website at www.purelifepalmtrimmers.com

By the way, David was cutting open coconuts and making smoothies with chocolate nibs, coffee, and cinnamon, and were they ever delicious!

Georgina,

I have to admit, you always have interesting ideas in your posts!

Thanks for forcing me to learn something new tonight, I always see people "walking" up coconut trees, never thought about environmental damage.

I had no idea... we don't have many palms here in the Pacific Northwest... I haven't seen one yet where you've go to be off the ground to trim. Thanks for teaching me something!
