Video of 2 nene geese in Haleakala Crater on Maui
The nene geese in Haleakala National Park are so tame that I got some pretty good footage of them when hiking through the crater last month. These 2 were just hanging out at the cabin hoping for a handout, but the rules say NO feeding the geese.
The nene goose is endemic to Hawaii and is only found on Maui and the Big Island of Hawaii. They are endangered and need to be protected. Can you tell that they have evolved from the Canada Goose? The markings are quite similar.

Aloha from Maui...

Georgina, Thank you for sharing a great video of an endangered species, at a great location. Best wishes.
Thanks Richard!
Hi Georginia,
Great localism video and very responsible of you not to feed them. I know it must be hard because we all grew up giving birds and ducks bread crumbs. Thanks for sharing and they are so cute!

Those lava formations amaze me! Happy Thanksgiving, Georgina!
I've seen them as a child not not recently. Whenever I'm at home I look for them but now they are difficult to find.
Great video - I see the geese were also tagged on their feet. Love the scenery in the background.
