Gorgeous Holiday Bouquet with Upcountry Maui Tropicals

protea flower arrangement at Hui No'eau

These beautiful exotic PROTEA flowers are grown in upcountry Maui on the slopes of Haleakala - that's the fertile volcanic mountain that makes up a large part of the island.  The cooler dry climate of Kula makes it ideal for farming of flowers and vegetables, and many productive farms can be found up here.  Protea flowers native to South Africa.  I snapped this picture at the Hui Holiday sale on December 1st.

Georgina... those are gorgeous.  We had a client send us an incredible proeta arrangement this summer as a closing gift.  For anyone that hasn't ever seen these in person... as gorgeous as that photo is, they are even more beautiful in person.

These pictures were gorgeous. It leads me to think of the edible fruit bouquet I'll be sending as a gift.

Wow that is a great shot. I may be the first to use this link and order. I know the perfect person for these!

Merry Christmas!

Jesse and Cathy - how lucky for you - they are really unique aren't they?

Danielle - lol - they look good enough to eat, but they are a little tough!  Kind of like an artichoke flower.

Charles - you can pick out a nice design from their website - but nothing this fabulous unless you make a special order.

Ntsike - thanks for stopping by.

Georgina those are beautiful! How awesome it must be to get flowers like that at this time of the year. I hope you're doing well and I still don't understand the dog...your photo was great. Later! Deb

It must be such a blessing to have the tropical plants you guys have.  We grow lots of flowers here...but nothing like yours!

Georgina, first let me say that the dog is darling! The flowers in Hawaii are like no other and I can't wait to get back to embrace your home once again. It is my favorite island and I haven't been back for at least 8 years so this will be a treat. I will give you a call and hopefully hook-up with you.

Debra - I wish we could grow these, but they like the cooler elevations like up in Kula.  We can grow the heliconias though.  I need to get some good portraits of myself, maybe for Christmas!

Trey - Yes, some of them grow like weeds!

Gena - Mama's Fish House is in my area - it's our favorite special occassion place.  You won't recognize it this time.

These are my favorite tropical flowers, I just love them! I miss Hawaii, for the flowers, the trade-winds and walking on the beach...among many other things.

Hi Elaine - thanks for coming by - the tradewinds are finally back, after about a week of Kona weather and no wind.  I took some pictures at the beach today!  Blogs are coming soon..... (blogstration I think somebody called it.)
