Maui Blog - Georgina M. Hunter R(S): Maui Street Sign Graffiti - does this happen to you?

I haven't seen this kind of thing on actual road signs here, but the telephone poles are absolutely covered with flyers for bands, etc.

We have a city "Winter Park"... there are very expensive homes there.  As you drive into Winter Park the sing is supposed to say "Drive with extraordinary care"  ....  It they dropped the e on care....  I chuckle as I drive by.

Jason - that's nice to know you have an active music scene, we are lacking in that respect

Debbie - will you be sneaking out in the night to cover up that E?

In our neck of the woods it's common to see stop sign that have bullet holes in them :)

No stickers some graffiti, But while on Kodiak Ak. this summer they had signs posted NO SHOOTING FROM ROAD. I'll have to post it... One was because it was in a school zone.  I felt like I stepped back in time. Wow what an experience! Cann't wait to go back!  :)

We see this here, more at the beach areas and yes mostly surfing/skating related stickers.

Sometimes I look around Haiku, and think it looks really hillbilly around here, but it's not really!

Wow - I've seen some bad signs but the ones in your pictures take it too a new level.  Luckily, here in Bergen County its not that bad!

Sal - lol - I guess it's just another sport around here.

That is "graffiti" of a totally different kind than I have seen here in Seattle, funny!  Now I have seen the kind with all the holes shot in them out in the country...most country sides I have driven in!

I noticed the signs when I was on Maui last week.  I took a picture of one while I was there.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I was wondering.  Do you have problems with them putting stickers on your real estate signs?

Deborah - I guess the bullet holes are everywhere then.

Randy - that's a good one!  I haven't ever noticed real estate signs with stickers on them.  But if you put your sign on country property (roadsides) you will probably never see it again after about a week.

Georgina, don't see that type of graffiti in Sacramento but sure did in Maui and Paia while I was there. It actually is pretty funny when you actually stop and read some of the stuff they place on signs.

Thank you very much for sharing, I haven't been to Maui in many years and don't see that kind of stuff on Oahu...I am sure it will spread eventually.

Shane - I'm surprised you don't get it over there too... maybe up on the north shore?

meny people that do this are trying to send out a mesge some are trying 2 get known in the art comunity for example Banksy he dusent stiker he is mainly in 2 stenciling great guy reserch him if you like 2 know more about him but back 2 the point try to see the good side of this graffiti is the bigges inback on man kind no other time have we humans been able 2 change awer sarowndings so much
