Maui Blog - Georgina M. Hunter R(S): WEED & POT CLUB on Maui - Who knew?

WEED & POT CLUB on Maui - Who knew?

Since I've been on a "garden and flowers" theme lately, here's another post in that vein.potting shed

While I was working on my Kula Newsletter today I came across this article in the Honolulu Advertiser, describing some of the local news for Maui.... they mentioned the WEED & POT CLUB in Kahului Maui, Hawaii.  I had no idea such a thing existed!  I guess it's thirsty work so they provide plenty of water to drink.  Here's what they had to say:

WEED & POT CLUB - Maui Nui Botanical Garden's Weed & Pot Club meets 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays at 150 Kanaloa Ave. in Kahului to weed, rake, trim, transplant nursery plants, and do other beautification and maintenance work. Tools, gloves and drinking water provided; bring sunscreen, wear shoes.

If you're looking for more info about Kahului Maui I have plenty of posts on that subject, especially if you are RELOCATING TO KAHULUI.

Kahului and Wailuku are located in the Central Valley of Maui, and are the main commercial, government and business districts for the island.  This is most likely where you'll land when you arrive on Maui for your vacation.

Community involvement is always great, and it is nice to see that they are looking to make their area more beautiful. I do like the fact that they remind people to wear shoes. So, Georgina, are you walking barefoot all of the time? With consistent temperatures on the island, you could.

Frank - you're funny.  When I was young I loved to go barefoot in the summer, much to my mother's dismay.  Now that I'm older and sensible I always wear shoes.. outside.  Of course everyone takes off their shoes indoors here, we can thank the Japanese influence for that.

Georgina - Indeed, not what I was expecting! I thought you had special clubs for special garden varieties of the funny weed out there!

BJ - There probably are some clubs for that too!   Just seeing if anyone was paying attention.

Georgina- I also was wondering what would be coming at me with the title of this post:) I know they busted a pot farm at the entrance to a park in Maui not to long ago.

Very funny. I too was expecting to hear about and entirely different type of club!!  I took my kids to Maui when my daughter graduated from college, while roaming through a small town my 20 year old son bent down and picked a small weed from between the cracks in the sidewalk, it was the type of weed I thought your article was about.  We all had a good laugh and tossed it aside.

Georgina, What a clever title, I'm sure this club will get some interest! What a great volunteer opportunity.......I can't wait to start gardening her. Very soon!

Karen - that must have been Paia town - I have found those weeds growing at the nearby beach park too.

Debbie - we can garden all year round, but it's best in the summer, with the longer days.
