If you've been to Paia Maui you probably noticed the cute store on Baldwin Avenue, called Alice in Hulaland. It's been a fixture in this beach town for many years, and one of the best boutiques for some really unique clothes and accessories. Lots of celebrities like to come here to shop.

Well move over Alice because there's a new building preparing to put the squeeze on you! I don't know what it's going to be, but it will be big, taking up most of the vacant lot next door.  I hope they take that classic sign down before too long because nobody will be able to see it.

This is not the only new commercial building going up in Paia right now. There's also the large building underway where the little Paia Courtyard used to be, on Hana Highway. Don Nelson is working on expanding his Shops at Paia Bay space across from Charley's. And something smaller is taking shape in the parking lot behind Charley's Restaurant. Where is all this new construction going to take us? Why are there so many empty shops in Paia? So many changes for little Paia town!

Georgie: Always change and supposed progress. In a way; it is too bad as many communties lose the old, comfortable island feel.

I hope the originators of this concept take their creativity elsewhere and make something even more inspiring! Here's to hoping. :)
