Maui Blog - Georgie Hunter R(S): Sunny sunflowers really make it feel like summer

Sunny sunflowers really make it feel like summer

Sunny sunflowers brighten any day

We've had an epic spring garden this year already and much of it has come and gone.  We enjoyed heaps of garden produce to eat and give away:

  • cherry tomatoes, Cherokee tomatoes
  • chard and lettuce
  • basil and cilantro
  • green peppers and banana peppers
  • beets and carrots
  • 2 kinds of pea pods
  • green beans, purple asparagus beans
  • asparagus
  • okra

There's a ton of tomatillos just coming ready, and the peppers are still producing.

The sunflowers are out in full bloom and it's always so fun to see them against the blue sky.  Now it really feels like summer around here in Haiku Maui.

Funny thing, I never thought about Sunflowers growing in the islands, but why not, everything else does!

Great looking garden!  Your produce is so much earlier than ours....we have a volunteer sunflower in our strawberry patch again for the second year in a row, just a different spot.  We leave it though it looks misplaced because it's fun to watch it grow and see it bloom.  Have a grea Friday! -Kasey

Georgie, you have quite the garden with lots of great veggies.  Mine has had a few hail storms, and no more basil left.
