Maui Blog - Georgie Hunter R(S): Where did the Mokulele Highway go? Maui breaking news!

Where did the Mokulele Highway go? Maui breaking news!

Where did the Mokulele Highway go?  Maui breaking news!

Well the old answer would be: The highway went from Kahului in the north to Kihei in the south.

The new answer is: The Mokulele Highway (Route 311) has been renamed and it's now called Maui Veterans Highway.  Governor David Ige signed the bill in April to make the change.  The signs are now up, so don't be confused when you see them.  Not so sure if Google is paying attention yet.

I like the photo of the arrow to the dirt path!  It will probably take a year or two with good to catch up with the name change...

It takes a long time for people to get used to a new road name. Many years ago Army Street in San Francisco became Cesar Chavez Street - but it was years before the new name became recognized.

Brenda Whitman, Live in Laramie Real Estate Thanks - it was a lucky snapshot wasn't it!

Lottie Kendall I get it, and it's going to take me a while to get used to it too.

Thanks for the feedback.

Love it I have seen Mr Google drive around Los Angeles a lot and have written a few post about them.... and it is also interesting they are pretty good at updating... so six months to a year... on a side note there was a picture that caught Diane's father years ago as he was looking in the trunk of his car... and Mr Google caught me and my Schmoie as he was taking care of business... so you never know when Mr Google will come by, Endre

That's an interesting story, Georgie Hunter R(S) 58089  I bet it will take quite some time for area residents to get used to using the new name...and maybe never will.

When I first looked at your picture, I thought the arrow on the highway was pointing to the Mokulele Highway, or that little dirt road.  I need morning coffee!

Sorry, Georgie Hunter R(S) 58089 but to the native Hawiians, I bet they will never adapt and adopt that new highway name. You can't change habits with the stroke of a pen.

Georgie, bet it will take a while before residents (and visitors) get used to the new name.

LOL! This is great information and I like how you're educting people about the change. I hate to say it, but if the dead could come back to life, they would complete lost.
