Camelback Mountain - Phoenix Arizona - what a view!

Camelback Mountain - Phoenix, Arizona

I want to say what a great experience we had climbing the trail at Echo Canyon Park - to the top of Camelback Mountain, in the heart of the Phoenix metropolis.

It was a good hike that took us over 3 hours (we rested for an hour at the top).  The guidebook told us it was going to be strenuous, and they weren't kidding.  It was hot and steep, but so worth it.  Parts of the trail were so steep that there were handrails to cling to.  Other parts you had to use your hands to climb up the rocks.

Once you get to the top the views are incredible, and you can see 360 degrees, for miles around... all of the metropolitan area and then some.  To the south is the Sky Harbor Airport.  To the north were some really high priced homes in Paradise Valley.

Did you know there are about 187 golf courses in the greater Phoenix area?  How many of them have you played?

This is a great place for a vacation, and I highly recommend climbing the mountain if you like to get outdoors and see the vistas.

If you're coming to Maui for a vacation, let me help you find the best views and hikes... call me.

Good photos. We love it here in Phoenix and are happy that you came for vacation and enjoyed it. There is so much to see and do here in the Phoenix Arizona area.

Those are some sweet photos (especially the second one)!

Next time make sure you dine at Rustler's Roost and try the rattlesnake... It tastes like chicken!

Great photos!

The views from the top of Camelback are outstanding.  There's an alternate way to the top from the east side, which still requires a bit of rock scrambling to get to the top.  Well worth it, from either trail. Some will hike up one trail and then go down the other.

Anyone hiking in Arizona should be prepared and always take lots of water, especially in the summer.

Bill - You got that right!  Thanks for commenting.

Bob & Carolin - We'll be back!

Benjamin  - We did go to Rustlers Rooste - the steaks were great - didn't try the snake.

Dru - it was hot!

Howdy Georgina

You are so right about the views at the top of Camelback Mountain. It's out of this world, for sure.

God Bless The U.S.A.

Wow! What AWESOME photography. Thanks for sharing this side of Phoenix. I can't count how many times I've been there. Had a divisional office there for several years. Probably been there at least 100 times...and just stayed in the city. Now I know I HAVE to go back and get out of the city just a bit.

Georgina,

Great photos! It looks like you had a beautiful day for a hike here in the Valley of the Sun. This is just one of thousands of fantastic hikes we have in the area.  I have lived here for almost 30 years and still haven't managed to trek them all. Every time I explore a new trail I am truly amazed at the spectacular beauty this desert has to offer. Next time you are in the area give me a call, I would love to show a couple of my local favorites that don't have quite the crowds that Camelback tends to. There are a few trails I've heard about in Hawaii that I would love to try as well. What are some of your favorites?

Sounds like you had a great vacation. I love the pictures you took. My family came for a visit from Hawaii last year but in July....Kinda too hot, I wish they would have seen the views that you got to see. I could only get them to go to places with air conditioning...hee hee

Bonny - It was perfect, with the "wind" blowing.  There were a lot of people, but that made it interesting too.  I will indeed look you up next time we come over that way, probably in a couple of years.  My favorite trails are at our 80 acre cattle ranch that is situated between 2 streams, providing plenty of gulches for exploring and swimming... come on over and I'll show you.

Aloha!

Dione - there is so much more to Hawaii than the beaches and resorts.  Especially on Maui, there is a vast upcountry area that is breathtaking.  I hope you will come back and explore further.

Georgina - how absolutely beautiful! I had no idea Arizona was so beautiful - I always think of cactus and desert -

BJ - you need to get out more! haha  AZ is very beautiful, and there is so much to see and do, if you like parks and scenery and things.  The Grand Canyon is close by and of course that's spectacular.  The Petrified Forest is really cool too.  Take a road trip!
