Cacao trees grow on Maui - buy a home and grow cacao

Who wants to grow some cacao, or chocolate trees?  You can find some properties for sale on Maui with cacao trees growing.  More and more people are planting some of these trees just for fun, and some are planning to go with commercial production.  They do well in Haiku with the mild climate and ample rain.

Cacao pod in Haiku Maui

This cacao pod is growing on a specimen tree at 480 Puniawa Rd. which I've blogged about recently as the "Brando" estate since it was formerly owned by Marlon Brando.  The 26.7 acre property is for sale and many more trees could be planted for your very own chocolate plantation.

Love the idea Georgie that you can grow your own cacao beans. There is a Chocolate establishment next to my eye doctor's office and I have seen pictures inside the store, showing how they harvest to beans and then ultimately how it becomes chocolate:)), Endre

Hi Georgie... I'm one of those people who believes chocolate should be its own food group. If I lived in Hawaii I could get really interested in having a few of those trees!

That is awesome, I learned how to make chocolate from cacao, but I have yet to do it myself.  I want to do it though, since it is so delicious and nutritious for us too.

Great post...who would not love growing tropical plants! That home and wrap around deck are also amazing.

Georgie, that would be pretty cool, growing your own chocolate.   Beautiful property too!

Nina Hollander I like that idea of chocolate being in a group by itself!
