Maui Blog - Georgie Hunter R(S): Thankful for a family Christmas with 4 generations

Thankful for a family Christmas with 4 generations

Thankful for a family Christmas with 4 generations

This year we'll do something different for Christmas, and fly to Vancouver to be with my old dad.  Since he's 96 and almost 97 it's a little harder for him to travel, so we'll do the travelling this year. My nephew will join us, and so will his niece, which makes 4 generations under the roof for a few days!  My dad might not quite grasp that his great-granddaughter will be part of the fun, but it will be really important for her to make the connection.

My dad still lives in his West End house where he's lived for over 35 years, and it's home to him.  It's like home to me and all of us too for that matter, even though none of us grew up there - but many great times and milestones happened here.  I'm thankful we're able to get together as it might be the last time.  His building has been slated for development and the new owners want to turn it into a 6 story condo building.  We are just waiting for updates on their permitting plans.

Hanging out with my dad in Vancouver BC

Sure, I'd rather be enjoying the warm weather of Maui, but it will be cozy and warm in the little house in Vancouver, with the fireplace blasting out heat, and all the comings and goings during the busy holiday.  Isn't that what holidays are for?

I'm also thankful that our ticket prices to Canada and back are quite cheap, since they need people to fill those seats after they bring in plane loads of tourists coming to spend Christmas on Maui!  Maybe it will even be a white Christmas in Vancouver (sometimes it is and sometimes it isn't) and we can just watch the snow from inside and be thankful we live on Maui the rest of the year.  : )

How lucky are you, Georgie... to have four generations to get together. We are down to three but if our grandson and his bride get moving maybe we can get back up to four. Enjoy!

Georgie Hunter R(S) 58089 - The greatest Christmas stories are based on family memories. It is wonderful that you'll all be together with your dad. May you all live a long and prosperous life building on good memories and family values.

The news about his building slated for development is sad. It was my mother's biggest worry before she passed. The City decided to make it a historical preservation building and it had to be sold once she was gone. I have a feeling, there are a lot more stories like this that doesn't reach the local or national news.

The photo of you and your dad is just beautiful. I can see a strong resemblance.  You both have intelligent and friendly eyes. Wishing you all a very Happy Thanksgiving.

Georgie, Wonderful that you and family are able to get together to create more memories.  A great photo of you and your dad. It would be a treat to see snow for the holiday, not too much just enough to add to the gathering.  Hope what ever happens with the community, the transition is easy for your father.  Take care.
