(This is my entry into the TOP 5 contest suggested by Jo-Ann Smith.)
It's your wedding anniversary, and you want to celebrate a whole lot of years together, so what do you do? This year we treated ourselves to a trip to a Maui resort - the Maui Prince Hotel in Makena. It was a first for us, to stay at this swank hotel, and we had a great time. I would highly recommend treating yourselves to something like this on any special occasion. Here's my top 5 list, to enjoy the experience.

#1 - Check-in to the resort as early as you can. Park the car and don't go anywhere. If you arrive earlier than the normal check-in time, just ask if your room is ready, and you might be happy to know that it is. I requested a quiet room, and we got a really nice ocean view room with lots of privacy. It was very quiet - all we heard were the birds!

#2 - Go to the beach and relax. Turn off the cell phone. Go swimming. Get some sand in your swim suit.

#3 - Have dinner and drinks at the resort. There are so many options, why go anywhere else? We ate the award winning Prince's Court and had the steak and lobster combo... I can't believe it was so good for only $30. I think that's a secret that should be let out. I also can't believe I didn't take my camera... haha... must have been the poolside Margaritas that made me forget.

#4 - Enjoy a romantic sunset by the ocean. This was taken from the golf course where there's a new development being built. Nobody else was around.

#5 - Get room service breakfast - that way you can sleep in and you don't have to bother getting dressed to eat. Lounge around and enjoy the room. Go back to the beach for another swim before check-out.
That's how we spent this past weekend to celebrate 79 years of marriage. I would say this was one of my Top 5 anniversary events of all time.
Now, how can I get back to that resort to spend a few more nights.....

Georgina, looks like a lot of fun! Maui is beautiful, I found it relaxing just being there and turning the cell phones off. I loved Lahaina old part of town, I forget now what it is officially called, and the road to Hana was spectacular! I wish that I was there right now!
Georgina,
This looks like a perfect way to spend an anniversary and what a beautiful place to spend it in! Lovely pictures.....btw, did you mean 29 years of marriage (your post says 79 years of marriage)??
Jo
As usual some beautiful pictures. That place reminds me of the Sheraton in Keahou over here on the Big Island. My wife has been nagging at me for a few days there before school starts again.
Tony and Darcy - The old part of Lahaina is called Lahaina! There is a lot of history there, along Front Street.
Jo-Anne - of course I meant 29, just seeing if anyone was paying attention. You win the prize!
Patrick - Surely you can think of a special excuse to take your wife there, without the kids.
This looks like a fabulous spot to escape to!
Joan - It was a much needed escape too. Thanks for dropping by.
Hunter-Happy Anniversary to you and Murray. Looks like you had a great getaway weekend.
Georginia - Looks like the perfect romantic getaway. How very special.
Georgina - I saw the 79 too and was wondering!!! Congratualtions. It sounds like you had a marvelous anniversary getaway.
Hi Pete - I want to go back! waaaaa
Pam - it was too short!
Tom - sometimes it feels like 79 years and sometimes it feels like 5. haha
Hi Georgina...And I thought I was getting up there in years. You must be a good 24+ years older than me. So lets see, maybe 95 or older. My mom is only 91.
Tomorrow Jim and I will celebrate our 16th anniversary....that's right on Independence Day. Wrote a post about that.
Sorry to say we won't be waking up at the Mauri Prince Hotel. Instead we will be waking up looking at Lake Anna. Maybe I'll get some good photos of that tomorrow.
Years ago, I believe it was 1977 or 1978 we (my three children and their dad plus me) spent a week in Oahu and a week in Maui. We all loved Maui. The two of you have reason to celebrate every day.
Congratulations on 29 years and an early happy 79th.
Kathleen
Hi Again...What makes the water look the way it does in the first photo? It is very interesting.
Kathleen
P.S. Did you fill the ocean with champagne? Sure looks like bubbles, that is flat bubbles. Now that doesn't sound quite right. Hard to picture a flat bubble.
Kathleen - Happy Anniversary to you too! I was in the water, and there were small waves making the surface uneven like that. Do you realize that it's 30 years since you've been over here? That was my first trip - 78. Maybe we bumped into each other at the airport... remember how small it used to be?
Georgina, seventy nine years? Now, who do you think you're fooling? Better not let your husband read this.
Sounds like you had a wonderful time and what a great deal you got on dinner! No more drinks for you, girl.
Gena - heehee, he already did read it! Thanks for coming by.
What beautiful photos! Thanks for sharing!
BJ - I can't keep up!
Aloha Georgina,
#6 Spend sunday afternoon at Little beach. hehehe

Kimo - been there done that, 30 years ago...that was where we camped!
Gita - thanks for the nice comment.
I will be visiting Maui in October and am enjoying reading up on it from a local's perspective before I arrive. Your blog is very helpful! Thanks!
Hi Amanda - you're lucky to be coming to Mau in October - will that include Halloween? You MUST go to Lahaina for that, but book a room now before they are sold out.
This is looking so good.
Thanks.
