This has absolutely nothing to do with Maui real estate, or buying a home in Maui Hawaii.
Sometimes I put pictures into the BLOG FILE - you probably have one too - to be used in a post in the near future. Yeah right.
So here's one I dredged up and dusted off - and NO it's not a recipe.
But I'll tell you what it is....
Malayasian prawns harvested from the fresh water streams of Kailua Maui and cooked up in some butter and garlic, salt and pepper. With some locally grown veggies.
The prawns were introduced to the streams decades ago, and they have done well. It's fun to catch the quick and wily Hawaiian crustaceans with a 3-pronged spear, in the shallow pools atop the ocean-side cliffs. This summer during the drought, the pools were way low and it was pretty easy filling up the catch bag with supper fixins, while slipping around in the spring fed water.

Anyway, the prawns were really good to eat.
Since then the rains have refilled the mountain pools somewhat and it's about time for the new batch of hatchlings to emerge from the ocean... yes they hatch in the ocean and migrate to the fresh water.
Prawns on Maui - That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Georgina, Wow, they look incredible! I can't even imagine how good they are. We can find prawns here but they are likely flown in--from Maine I believe. Thanks for sharing, I'm going to be wanting seafood tonight :)
Carole - I hope you enjoyed your seafood dinner! Thanks for dropping by.
Looks Really Good!! I'm going to have seafood SOON!!! Thanks for sharing!

Hi Georgie,
I love prawns. I actually have some in my back yard in a stream. We use to camp in Kaupo and at night hike up the streams on a full moon to go prawn hunting. Then in the morning we would go diving for lobsters. Breakfast would be fresh prawns, lobster rice and fresh coffee. Nice article.
Steve
Andy - thanks for coming by
Steve - sounds like a great way to start the day while camping. It's fun hunting them at night - with their little beady eyes glowing in the flashlights!
MMMMM prawns...
Are prawns the same as shrimp? I love shrimp! But I won't peel my own. LOL. The have to ready to go. When I'm hungry, I want to eat NOW. =D But those look yummy. I can relate to Homer up there.
Pete - d'oh!
Lisa - well I'm not quite sure what the subtle differences are. These live in fresh water, which makes them a little different than most crustaceans. Peeling them is a pain. I find if you take a sharp knife and slice down their backs, like they do for lobster, the come out a lot easier after being cooked.
I was already hungry from the post about goat cheese flatbread and now THIS - I may end up in the kitchen soon and am attempting to drop a few pounds -
I remember an earlier post about these, yes...but I love seafood so...thanks for the second helping? /g/
BJ - you just need to get a little more exercise - at the beach!
Suzanne - thanks for dropping in, glad you liked the prawns.
