Last weekend we attended a birthday party for a friend in Haiku Maui - he's now 98 years young. In addition to celebrating his birthday, he was also celebrating his 1 year wedding anniversary and the opening of his art gallery. He makes some colorful oil paintings of Maui scenes, which you can see hanging outside his studio here. We should all be so lucky to have a long rich life.
These beautiful dancers are from Palau, a small island nation in the Pacific. They have such warm smiling faces, and they were so graceful, I just had to post these pictures. The party was very friendly and casual on their Haiku farm. This family has really got it down - they grow so much of their own food, and take care of their own. One daughter is a well respected potter, with her own kiln and workshop on the property. It was really inspirational to be there.

Wow, life is such a journey and there are always new adventures as with your friend who turned 98 years old! So awesome to hear he continues to grow in his life, so many people stagnate. We are going to visit Kauai next month, can't wait.
Up until "Dancing with the Stars," I had never seen dancers without warm, smiling faces. "Dancing with the Stars" has forever ruined dancing for me. In fact, all the fake "reality" shows are ruining life. JMHO.
Georgina - how wonderful that your friend is celebrating his 98th birthday (Hawaii must promote long life - my grandmother lived in Oahu until she was 94). I love the photos of these dancing girls.
Georgina thanks for sharing the photos are great. How great is that your friend celebrating his 98th birthday! Best wishes.
Georgina,
Glad you had a wonderful time at the party, sounds like it was a great time! Rubak's paintings in the background are so vibrant and really capture the beautiful colors and landscape of Maui!
I hope I live on a farm in Haiku when I am 98!
Patricia - I hope you have a wonderful time on Kauai!
Russel - it's a strange world alright, sometimes it's best to turn off the TV!
Sharon - there is something to be said for living in the islands - we do have a higher life expectancy here.
Hope - and he's still sharp too!
Michelle - you're right, very vibrant - he's offering to teach anyone for free!
Billy - you will, if that's what you want
Palau is known for amazing diving...
By the way Hunter, you look a little different. I just can't put my finger on what it might be?
Pete - how do you like me now - got some of them there Sarah Palin glasses too.
Georgina- Hawaii has the longest life expectancy out of the whole United States. It also ranks #3 in the cleanest air in the entire world.
WOW, 1st year wedding anniversary at the age of 98! I plan to live at least til 107 so I better get my tail over there soon!
I have this plan: the other day one of my friends said, but how can you move to Hawaii and leave your kids and grandkids?
I said, I have a plan, I will move my kids over there one by one, then I will have to go there too! Because they will already be there! :)
(I think there's an imposter on your blog, Georgina)
Beautiful shots and yes 'we should all be so lucky to have a long rich life' as Rubak!
The paintings seemed so much a part of the landscape that I didn't at first realize they were paintings and NOT ocean glimpses. Good feeling post, wonderful story -- and thanks. Met a man from Truk (aka Chuuck) today a sister island to Palau
Katerina - I like your plan! What do your kids think of the plan? Who's on first?
The clean air and water were some of the things that enticed us to move here, after living for many years in the yellow-aired urban environment.
Deborah - I'm back, and cleaned up my act.
Alexsandra - the paintings fit right in don't they?
Georgina, you made me long to come back again. Unfortunately, this Xmas I won't be able to but I enjoyed seeing the dancers and congratulate the man turning 98. He certainly must have lived right in order to reach that ripe old age. What a great celebration.
98 and still going strong. Lots of kudos to him. I can only imagine being there one day.
Georgina, The photos are great....and congratulations to your friend on his 98th birthday!
Gena - he lived in Haiku Maui for a long time, that's why he's so healthy.
Robert - one day at a time!
Gary - thanks for coming by!
