Shane Victorino is a local Maui boy who just triumphed in the World Series, playing as an outfielder for the Philadelphia Phillies. Woo hoo - way to go Shane! He's often referred to as 'The Flyin' Hawaiian".... and he's player 8. I guess growing up on Maui was a good thing for Shane. I haven't had the pleasure of meeting this young athlete, but I wish him great success in his baseball career. Are there any local heroes in your town?
Shane's father, Mike Victorino, is a member of the Maui County Council, where he is very responsive to feedback from his constituents.
If the video above isn't working, here's a link to see a tribute to Shane Victorino.
aloha from Maui - Georgina M. Hunter R(S) e-Pro - 808 283-0635 - Email me

Georgina - that is awesome and nice to have a local boy achieve so much!! We have had a number of atheletes here - including Aaron Peirsol who graduated from Newport Harbor.
I was probably the only person rooting for the Rays on Maui. Congrats to Shane and the Phillies.
Woot woot! I bet y'all are so proud of Shane Victorino!
Sharon - cheers to Aaron Peirsol too!
Pete - Not!
Renee - you betcha
thanks for the comments!
I had to root against Pete since Shane is a local boy. I've been following him for a few years now. He is the 2008 version of Lenny "Nails" Dykstra from the 1986 World Series Winning New York Mets! Go Shane.
P.S. Don't forget Kurt Suzuki. He's an oustanding catcher for the Oakland A's. Perhaps he will win a ring someday as well.
Georgina, that's pretty good. Just another great point for Maui. As if you guys needed anymore good points. It's great to have a local hero and I love baseball.
Gosh ,,,,,,, Victorino's are on the 100% March ! He might be our new President # 44 or 45
Billy - I'll have to check out Kurt and see what he's up to. thanks
Gena - you're right, another great point for Maui
Georg - hey you never know!
Probably when he's flying from Hawaii to Philadelphia, he stops here in San Diego to see Cole Hamels, World Series MVP. Hmmmmmmm. Do any of the Phillies live in Philly? LOL
Russel - haha good point.
