How much time do YOU spend on Twitter?

follow me and I"ll follow you

FOLLOW ME ON TWITTER.COM

I recently joined Twitter.com because I was curious.  I held back as long as I could because I knew it would probably be a real time grabber.

I like it and it can be fun if you have time to get into it, and join in some conversations.  There are some smart peeps on Twitter, but you never know until you spend some time reading their tweets and following their links.  140 characters is a real contraint to being brilliant, so you often have to delve a little deeper by clicking a link.

I like to check in there once or twice a day for a half hour, if time permits.  I see some of the same people on there time after time.

Do you twitter?  How much time do you spend there?  Do you find yourself staying too long at the party?  How do you manage your time there?

(You can follow me .... @mauihunter  -  I won't bite)

Hi Georgina.  I have an account, but am not very active.  Much busier with facebook.  Twitter seems all realtors?  Am I correct?

Georgina I just started following you!

Georgina,  I am also new to Twitter but found a list of 10 people to follow, and now I'm following over 80 people - probably too many but it is very interesting to just see what is posted.  I think the links are most useful; variety as well;  wished there was an easy way to follow Realtors or other groups ( I did join Twitter Groups but just signed up - not sure how it works). Also, I just found "MrTweet" which gives you people to follow once you have a few people - they make suggestions on who to follow.  I just found out that Lance Armstrong is a Twitter - I'm a cyclist so I like reading what he is doing.

I haven't figured it out yet.  I joined about 3 days ago, and it doesn't quite make sense.  I need to find time to go back to some of the AR twitter blogs and see what I'm missing.  It looks like just an open chat room.

Hi Georgina,

I have a hard time keeping up with Twitter.  What I like about it are the friendly people.  You always feel like you have people to talk to or ask questions.  People are super helpful.  I've also gotten some great tips for hot stories and applications.  It wasn't really until the interview - link below - "What's the big deal about Twitter?" did I have an enlightened a ha moment of "I've got to try this.

Great post, Georgina! Being new to Twitter myself, I can relate.  I spend far more time on Active Rain.  I have to force myself not to get swept away in Twitter.

Thanks for the answers - and the reblog!  I'll be visiting your blogs to reciprocate soon if I don't get a chance to respond here.... because I'm wasting too much time on Twitter.

Georgina- I love Twitter. I have met some of the most amazing people across all fields of interest to me. I am amazed at how helpful they are too! I have discovered some great outside blogs to follow from homeschool, SEO, marketing, authoring, etc. I read a tweet about a poem contest on a writer's blog and so I went over to the blog, wrote a poem in a few minutes and then the blog author wrote me a personal email thanking me!  Twitter is so much fun, I wish I could be on more.

BTW-  I already follow you on Twitter!

Well, I'm already following you on Twitter and can attest that you don't bite :)

As for time, it depends, but it can be a real time-sucker if you allow it to!

Georgina-

I've been told by a lot of others in my field that I got to try it for marketing. Ok, I've tried it for a day now and have no idea where the marketing part comes in..but it's interesting anyway. A a tip for those trying it, don't click a ton of names and select direct messaging (thinking maybe a message or two might come in) then leave the computer to go to a meeting. I found the out today at the PRG quarter meeting today. Yup, dead phone in a hour..lol. And yes Georgina I'm following you too :) . So far I have invested 6 hours on tweeter. Is it productive? I have no clue yet.

Hunter-I like the non real estate element on Twitter, but I know there are some on AR who have used Twitter effectively for business. Hopefully, this young grasshopper can learn and prosper too.

I see it like this - no more time than I would being out networking. Twitter makes it easier to talk to people too - they are less intimidated regarding business talk.

Ken - if you are reading these comments, try out Tweet Later (check my blog) - you can do keyword searches and find whatever kind of people you like. Maybe more than you like :-)

Hi Georgina - I check into Twitter a couple of times a day, and sometimes run Twhirl in the background if I'm doing other online work. I really don't worry about time, because I'm rarely only on Twitter - usually it's in conjunction with something else.

Posted by John Novak - Las Vegas and Henderson NV Real Estate (Keller Williams Realty The Marketplace) about 1 year ago

John Novak - I have only joined up with Twitpics so far, regarding Twitter add-ons.  Yes I do Twitter along with other stuff too.

Hi Georgina; I am erratic. Sometimes I go a couple of days without checking out. Then check in 3 or  4 times per day. I don't join in as much as I should but am working on it.

Thanks for the post.  I'm still looking into Twitter and I hope to do more with it in 2009.

Posted by Greg Wilson (1st Cornerstone Realty) about 1 year ago

Georgina, I'm there but don't spend much time at all. I find lately that I am working with clients more so that takes up a lot plus blogging which is what brings in my business. Perhaps, 2009, I'll find more time.

I'll look for you there. In the meantime, have a wonderful Christmas. Staying in CA this year so I will miss those Maui sunsets.  Did get a nice Christmas card from the Plantation where I stayed the first few nights last year.

Georgina - I have it running on my desktop, but I've been busy lately and don't engage REALTORS as much as I used to... I'm looking for more "real people" to join in the conversation.

I've gone over there a couple of times, but I haven't seen anything that has enticed me to quit Playing in the Rain or to also play in someone else's sandbox.

Best wishes for health, happiness, peace, and prosperity in 2009.

I guess I am old school as well.  I just don't understand why a website would put a 140 charachter cap on a blog?

Has anyone had problems getting their initial account setup.  I've filled in all the data and submitted (without error) but without the generation of an account.  Any ideas?  Thanks.

I don't twitter as often as I should.  I do something, and then think to myself, I should have twittered that!  I need to get better at it if I am going to make twitter work for me.

Posted by Troy Erickson - Your Chandler, Gilbert, Queen Creek Realtor (Terra Solis Realty, LLC) about 1 year ago

Robert - I would  try again.  If at first you don't succeed....

Troy - likewise.  I think it's more useful if you can tweet from multiple outlets.
