HAWAII STANDARD TIME = HST
If you really don't know what time it is in Hawaii, can you please refer to a time zone map before calling. I am willing to answer your calls at odd hours, but not at 4:30 in the morning.
Here in Hawaii we don't go onto Daylight Saving Time. We are 2 or 3 hours BEHIND the West Coast, depending on the season. We are 5 or 6 hours BEHIND the East Coast.
Here's an easy way to remember HST, in case you don't know if Hawaii is before or after.... picture a rising sun coming up in the EAST and setting in the WEST. So if Hawaii is west of California (of course you know that already), the sun will be coming up later than in California, right? Therefore, when it's daybreak on the west coast, we are still in the dark, and probably still sleeping.
Does that make sense? Any questions?
I do want to hear from you. Thank you for keeping this in mind before you call me.
Aloha from Maui Hawaii...

Sounds like you've gotten one too many early, early phone calls, Georgina :) I have to confess that I didn't know how far behind the West Coast you were, but I sure wouldn't call you without checking first.
I haven't experienced that problem too many times. Most are good about not calling until it is at least 8:00 HST. I have had some clients over in the Asia Pacific area and Europe where we have had to do some odd hours calling just due to time differences.
That being said, before I moved to Maui I used to come out to the island pretty frequently for vacation. While it was a vacation, work tended to follow me. I had a couple of co-workers who didn't quite get the time difference so I was subject to 4:00 AM phone calls.
This is an AWESOME post - should be crystal clear now for anyone who wasn't sure;)

Thanks for your comments - Merry Christmas!
Georgina - I called some friends once that took a "secret" trip to Hawaii... I woke them up at about 3 in the morning... I won't do that to you!
It's funny how people will say... "oh, I thought the hours went the other way!"
We have a lot of foreign buyers active here in San Diego, so I make myself available 24/7. The occasional phone call doesn't bother me at all because I can always go back to sleep. So many people are calling just to find a real person answering the phone. I'm that one, and I don't mind it.
Today is the first day of the rest of your life -- make it a good start.
Jim - good for you for answering at any time!
